My Brothers, are you ready to fight? No, I’m not talking about fighting in spiritual warfare, specifically. I’m not even talking about fighting for your family. These are all connected, but I am specifically talking about fighting for your heart.
Has your stomach just sunk? Did you just roll your eyes and think that this is too “touchy-feely” for you? You’d better not! Jesus announced boldly that his mission was to “preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the brokenhearted; to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those that are oppressed, and to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
You’d better be certain that you are in alignment with the heart of Jesus Christ Himself, the Great Messiah. Which of these descriptors do you think you are better than? “I’m not brokenhearted,” you say. “I’m not blind.” You must think that you do not need the Saviour’s ministry! Look at what the Gospel of John records about Jesus, regarding Peter. “Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” John 13:5,8 Jesus was emphatic that Peter must allow Jesus to minister to him. It was Peter’s choice, but take note of the consequence if he were to refuse. A separation would remain between Peter and Jesus if he did not allow Him to minister to him.
Do you feel a separation from Jesus Christ? Do you feel a distance from Him, and cannot figure out what the problem is? Allow me to pose a thought that you may have never heard before. Are you listening? God wants to pour into you. He wants to fill you with what your soul craves most. All of your “doing” and “performing” for God cannot fill the core of you; it cannot satisfy your soul. It is time to be still and quiet and listen for His voice. He has so much to share with you.
So, what does this have to do with fighting? I’ll tell you. Just try to be still and quiet, and I’ll guarantee you that it will be a struggle. It will be ridiculously difficult to quiet yourself before the One who knows you most thoroughly, if you are not accustomed to doing so. And, as far as fighting goes, He often gives us opportunity to fight in small things before revealing the larger battle. Your heart needs a champion. Are you up to the challenge?
